Book 2 in the Relentless series

To keep the people she loves safe, Sara left everything she knew behind. She soon learns this new world is nothing like her old one, and she struggles to make a place for herself among the Mohiri. But it soon becomes apparent to Sara and to everyone one around her that she is not your typical warrior.

As the weeks pass, Sara builds new relationships, copes with her new trainers, and tries to manage her ever-changing powers, while keeping her unique heritage a secret. Looming in the background is the constant shadow of the Master who will do anything to find her.

Sara finds herself on a journey of self-discovery that uncovers her true strengths and awakens a part of her she never knew existed. She experiences the delight of new friendships, the sweetness and pain of first love, and a loss so deep it could be the thing that finally breaks her. At the end of it all, she discovers that the one place she was supposed to be safe might not be the refuge she thought it was.

The second book continues after a short time jump from the first. Sara is learning about her heritages and powers while in her new home. This book is not as fast paced and fluid as the first, which reflects Sara's uncertainty in her new environment. The new characters introduced are strong additions and help set up for the final book in the trilogy. Another great read!

I read the relentless and refuge over the course of a few sleepless nights after my mum passed away. I was lost and sad and these books gave me comfort during a very difficult time. Refuge became like a dear friend to me during this time. The family Sara finds and friends she makes, along with the development of the mohiri world, made this one of my favourites in the series, with Haven being the other. These books hold a special place in my heart for helping me through some of my darkest days.

The first book was a great introduction but I really enjoyed the more in depth look at how the Mohiri live, giving us a better understanding of their world.

I read Refuge in one sitting, which is something I haven't felt compelled to do in a while. After reading Relentless I purchased the rest of this series immediately. In this series you've got a mixture of kick ass warriors, magic beyond comprehension and some crazy assed demons all rolled into one truly gripping story. But it doesn't end there. I don't think a book has ever made me laugh so much, I seriously love Sara, she is quick on her toes, she has fire and sass, and an immeasurable a
