Refuge

The second book continues after a short time jump from the first. Sara is learning about her heritages and powers while in her new home. This book is not as fast paced and fluid as the first, which reflects Sara's uncertainty in her new environment. The new characters introduced are strong additions and help set up for the final book in the trilogy. Another great read!

I read the relentless and refuge over the course of a few sleepless nights after my mum passed away. I was lost and sad and these books gave me comfort during a very difficult time. Refuge became like a dear friend to me during this time. The family Sara finds and friends she makes, along with the development of the mohiri world, made this one of my favourites in the series, with Haven being the other. These books hold a special place in my heart for helping me through some of my darkest days.

The first book was a great introduction but I really enjoyed the more in depth look at how the Mohiri live, giving us a better understanding of their world.

I read Refuge in one sitting, which is something I haven't felt compelled to do in a while. After reading Relentless I purchased the rest of this series immediately. In this series you've got a mixture of kick ass warriors, magic beyond comprehension and some crazy assed demons all rolled into one truly gripping story. But it doesn't end there. I don't think a book has ever made me laugh so much, I seriously love Sara, she is quick on her toes, she has fire and sass, and an immeasurable a…mount of strength. After all she's faced I don't know how she's still standing. In Refuge you get to meet a lot of new characters. I truly love Desmund, I connected with him immediately. I'm so happy Chris was introduced back into Refuge he's one of my favourites. Jordan is the kind of friend you want in your corner be it for boy drama or vampire hunting. Tristian is simply amazing. I love him. The twins. Hugo and Woolf.. I love them all. There’s a few bombshells in this book, some moments made me laugh out loud, and reduced me to happy tears, some made me cry, and at times I was tempted to scream at my tablet, though I only done it once at 2 am. Nikolas. Nate.. Everything. The story progresses at a nice pace that has me left wanting more. Quotes I adored: “Yeah because having a demon in your head is so normal. They have hospitals for this kind of thing.” Sara. “Sometimes it is difficult to see the goodness in your life when you are in turmoil. Just remember that even during a storm, the sun is shining. You may not see it, but it is always there above the clouds, waiting to warm you again.” Aine.
